Peanut Butter Suet
We save the forms from any commercial suet we buy and use them to put the following recipe in. They will then fit our suet cages.
1 cup lard (it is convenient to use the 1 pound packages of Morrell lard)
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
Melt these two ingredients in the top of a double boiler. Then stir in:
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup flour (part white, part whole wheat)
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups cornmeal
Then add a handful of millet and sunflower seeds.
Pour this mix into the forms, cool and store in the freezer.
All the birds that come into our yard love this suet over any that we buy. We've even had Pileated Woodpeckers at the feeder. I attach a board vertically below the suet cage to give the woodpeckers something to brace their tails against.

Another way to serve this treat would be to cut a log (about 4" in diameter) into a 12-inch length. Screw a heavy-duty hook into one end of the log. In a random pattern, drill holes 1/4- to 1/2-inch wide and deep into the wood. Fill the holes with the peanut butter suet recipe above and suspend feeder from a branch or eaves.
